Where: Technical University – Sofia, 15 – 19 May 2023
The course materials were prepared by highly qualified professionals of Technical University of Sofia, who attended the previous training sessions, scheduled in the STELLAR project. All of them have PhD degrees and tenure track with the University. All training sessions are video recorded and the materials are posted on the publicly available IANAO Youtube channel, for the benefit of the Radio Astronomy community of the European Union and worldwide.
The course was advertised 6 months ahead of the event in major mass media and scientific channels. The application process was conducted thru web based application form, where the candidates provided data about their educational and scientific background, interests, reasons to pursue degree or career in radio astronomy and IT skills. The course was intended for 20 trainees, however due to the top educational level and skills demonstrated, one additional candidate was admitted (totaling in 21 persons). The constitution of the group was: 18 Students from Bulgaria, 2 from North Macedonia, 1 from Egypt. Per diem and accommodation was provided for 2 national and 2 international students (envisioned in the STELLAR plan).
The course was conducted in premises of the “International Meetings Center “Helmut Boehme” in excellent conditions for students and lecturers. Supporting materials and consumables were provided as well. The course was augmented by hands-on laboratory exercises where the trainees got an experience on the lecture material. The laboratory was provided for free by the Technical University of Sofia. One of the lecture was conducted by an expert from ASTRON.
